Warrnambool PARC

Warrnambool PARC is a Prevention and Recovery residential mental health facility designed for the Department of Health and South West Healthcare. This is a13-bed facility providing care for clients aged 16-64 years of age with diagnosed mental illness requiring sub-acute healthcare. It is located in a residential neighbourhood consisting of freestanding single storey housing. The design responds to the surrounding houses, so that the new building blends into its surrounds and its institutional nature is not apparent. The building is formed around two major outdoor spaces that provide access to light and ventilate. One space is a large courtyard which provides a focused, secure outdoor space that can accommodate organised activities. The other garden space is not accessible but provides outlooks from bedrooms onto a stormwater swale and landscaping.
